An MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging scan, uses strong magnets and radio frequency energy pulses to create images of the internal structures within your body.
This video provides an overview of how MRI technology works to create an image. MRIs utilize homogenous magnetic field devices to line up the hydrogen atoms within your body. Gradient magnets are then used to send pulses of radio frequency energy into your body at different strengths. These signals are sent back to the machine where they are converted into digital images.
